PROFESSIONAL TRUCK DRIVER TRAINING PROGRAM
At HDS Truck Driving Institute (HDS), we prepare students for rewarding careers in transportation through our Professional Truck Driver Program. We are accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) and are the only school to offer this program in Arizona.
WHY CHOOSE THE PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM?
Graduating from this program is like earning a master’s degree in trucking. You’ll go further than basic CDL training and build confidence in every part of the job. Training includes instructor-led lessons, video demonstrations, group discussions, and extensive behind-the-wheel practice. Students also complete a paid externship with a partner carrier, gaining real-world experience before entering the workforce.
The program also includes additional truck time, giving you more opportunities to strengthen pre-trip inspections, backing maneuvers, and driving skills.
CDL TRAINING PLUS ENDORSEMENTS
In addition to your Class A CDL, you’ll earn four endorsements that expand your trucking job opportunities:
- Hazardous Materials (Hazmat)
- Tankers
- Doubles/Triples
- Passenger
Employers value drivers with these qualifications, and many offer higher pay for them.
DIESEL MAINTENANCE TRAINING
Another advantage of the Professional Program is the Diesel Maintenance Training portion. You’ll learn the fundamentals of diesel truck systems and develop hands-on maintenance skills that can be applied on the road or in the shop. Topics include:
- Air Systems and Air Brakes
- Tire Repair and Steering
- Electrical Diagnostics
- Drive Lines and Axles/Wheel Seals
- Truck and Trailer PMI
- Starting, Charging, and HVAC
This training can help you save money by maintaining your own equipment and opens the door to entry-level diesel mechanic jobs.
PAID EXTERNSHIP
HDS replaces the unpaid mentorship required by many carriers with a paid externship. You’ll drive under the supervision of an experienced trainer and earn while you learn.
FINANCIAL AID AND SUPPORT
The program is FAFSA eligible for those who qualify. We also accept grants, offer payment plans, and provide other financing options.
CAREER-READY SKILLS
Our graduates leave prepared for more than just driving. With the combination of CDL training, endorsements, and diesel maintenance experience, you’ll be ready for a variety of career paths in transportation and beyond.

DO CRANE OPERATORS NEED A CDL?
A CDL is essential for crane operators who need to drive large trucks carrying cranes or related equipment. Many construction companies and contractors require crane operators to have a CDL, even if they primarily operate stationary cranes. Holding a CDL expands your job opportunities, increases your earning potential, and makes you a more competitive candidate in the construction industry.
